Personally, I think this is Baathist propaganda. A couple of months ago the Iraqi government said they had evidence he was in Yemen. Now if thats true I highly doubt he could sneak back into Iraq without some notice. Like I said in an earlier posting, you have to question how a 70+ year old sick man can stay on the run for 5 years. My feeling is he was in a Iraq for 2 years after the invasion, but he has since left and taken asylum in another Arab country. This reminds me of how the Taliban claims Mullah Omar is in Afghanistan when there is overwhelming evidence that he is hiding in Pakistan. You can't believe what these criminal terrorists say!

Violence has surged in Afghanistan in recent weeks after a winter lull, following last year’s bloodiest period since the Taleban’s ouster in 2001.
Taleban commander Mullah Hayatullah Khan told Reuters late on Friday by satelite phone from an undisclosed location that Omar had contacted senior and regional commanders and congratulated them for carrying out “successful” attacks in recent weeks.
He would not give details as to how and when Mullah Omar contacted the commanders.......

My guess on how he made contact: Most likely he wrote a letter and the letter was copied and distributed to all the senior and regional commanders. It's high unlikely that any of the commanders have Mullah Omar's phone number, especially after what happened in July 2004. For those of you not familiar with that incident, Mullah Omar's brother-in-law was captured in an operation by US and Afghan forces in eastern Afghanistan. Well, the Taliban chief's number was present on the man's cell phone and coalition forces called Omar and he picked up!! Unfortunately, he quickly caught on and hung up his phone. Later on, the phone call was traced to a house in Quetta, Pakistan. (no shock there!) For quite some time after that telephone contact, we were hot on his trail!

The Anbar Salvation Council claims it killed al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri in fighting Tuesday.
Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Reesha -- head of the anti-al Qaeda in Iraq tribal alliance -- said fighters, with help from tribes in the Niba'ie area, killed al-Masri and eight of his aides in a battle Tuesday morning.
Ali al-Dabbagh, spokesman for Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, passed along reports about the death but cited tribal sources and not Iraqi intelligence. He said the government won't be able to confirm al-Masri's death until it makes an identification of the body.
"Iraqi security forces do not have the body," al-Dabbagh said on Iraqi state TV. "Iraqi security forces and Multi-National Forces are trying to retrieve the body for visual identification and DNA tests." Abu Reesha said "eyewitnesses saw their bodies dumped in the battlefield" but did not say where the bodies were. Abu Reesha provided details of the fighting in a phone interview with al-Iraqiya state TV, a national network.

For Bin Laden to plan such a coordinated, complicated, and timely attack like the one targeting vice president Dick Cheney he would have to be active and out in the field. He would need to be commanding things and meeting with different people. That's certainly not the case. Bin Laden is deep in hiding and most likely spending most of his time trying to avoid capture. We haven't heard from the guy in over a year! He definitely wouldn't put himself out there like this. The only reason the Taliban is giving him the credit is so he can stay relevant. They want to try to show that he is still very much in charge and aware of the day to day activity of the global jihadist movement. When in reality, he is probably cut out from the outside world hiding out in the basement of some crappy safehouse in a village in northwestern Pakistan.

The United States has scored a major victory against al Qaeda's global network. Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, one of Osama bin Laden's senior deputies who was "personally chosen by bin Laden to monitor al Qaeda operations in Iraq," has been captured and transfered to the detention center at Guantanamo Bay. The U.S. government put 1,000,000 dollar reward on his head.
It is unknown who captured al-Hadi, or where or when he was captured. "'Abd al-Hadi was trying to return to his native country, Iraq, to manage al Qaeda's affairs and possibly focus on operations outside Iraq against Western targets," according to the Department of Defense. "'Abd al-Hadi also met with al Qaeda members in Iran and believed that they should be doing more with the fight, including supporting efforts in Iraq and causing problems within Iran." Last year, Coalition forces captured senior al Qaeda operative Omar Farouq in Basra after he left Afghanistan to plan operations inside Iraq.
Al-Hadi was al Qaeda's Internal Operations Chief and served as an instructor as well as the commander of several al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan. He was a major in Saddam Hussein's Army prior to going to Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union in the 1980s.
